Rwanda experiences two distinct dry seasons, making it a year-round destination, though these periods are universally considered the best time to visit.

The most significant advantage of dry season trekking is the trail condition. The paths in Volcanoes National Park are significantly less muddy and slippery. This makes the steep, high-altitude inclines much more manageable, reducing overall hiking time and physical strain.

Clear skies and reduced fog mean better natural light filtering through the forest canopy. This dramatically improves photography conditions, allowing for sharper, brighter images of the mountain gorillas without the heavy mist common in the rainy months.

While the days are sunny and warm in Kigali (up to 26°C), the high altitude of Volcanoes National Park means early mornings are chilly (around 7°C).
