Ferry Booking Strategy
- No advance booking needed for Valletta-Sliema or Malta-Gozo public ferries — pay at terminal
- Comino boat tours: Book via hotel or Gozo Channel website 1–2 days ahead in summer
- Car ferry to Gozo: Reserve online if bringing rental car (most Indian travelers don't need this)
- Check Gozo Channel website (www.gozochannel.com) for real-time schedule updates, especially Nov–Mar
- Carry small euro coins for ferry tickets — card machines occasionally offline
- Tallinja Public Buses: Island-wide network, affordable (€2 summer/€1.50 winter single fare), reliable. Buy Explore Malta 7-day pass (~€21) for unlimited travel — excellent value for multi-day itineraries.
- Bolt / eCabs Apps: Uber-like ride-hailing available island-wide. Often cheaper than rank taxis. Pay via app or cash.
- Walking: Valletta, Sliema, Mdina are very walkable. Cobblestones in historic towns — wear comfortable shoes.
- Car Rental: Optional. Malta drives on the LEFT (same as India). Narrow roads in historic towns make public transport often preferable. Rent only if planning extensive rural Gozo exploration.
- Taxi Ranks: Available at MLA airport, Valletta, Sliema, St. Julians. Use metered taxis or agree fare upfront.
Recommendation for Indian travelers: Base in Sliema + Tallinja bus pass + occasional Bolt rides + public ferries = most cost-effective, stress-free transport combo.
