When & What to Expect
Brazil Carnival is a massive, country-wide festival occurring the week before Lent (usually February). It is characterized by vibrant parades, infectious Samba and Axé music, elaborate costumes, and street parties (blocos) that take over every city.
- Duration: The main events run from the Friday before Ash Wednesday until Fat Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday). However, street parties often start weeks earlier.
- Atmosphere: Joyful, inclusive, and incredibly energetic. Millions of locals and tourists take to the streets.
- Relevance for Indians: It is a spectacular cultural immersion. However, it requires meticulous planning, a higher budget, and heightened street smarts due to the massive crowds.
