The Mexico Tourist Visa (Visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas) is a sticker visa physically affixed to your passport by the Mexican Embassy or Consulate. Indian citizens require this visa to enter Mexico for tourism, visiting family/friends, or short-term business meetings.
Important Exemption: Indian nationals who hold a valid, multiple-entry visa from the USA, UK, Schengen Area, Canada, or Japan are exempt from requiring a Mexican tourist visa for stays up to 180 days. If you do not hold one of these visas, you must apply for the Mexican visa in advance.
| Submission Centre | Jurisdiction | Typical Processing | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Delhi (Embassy/VFS) | Northern & Western India | 5–10 working days | Primary Centre |
| Chennai (Honorary Consulate) | Southern India | 7–15 working days | By Prior Appointment |
Verify if you hold a valid, multiple-entry US, UK, Schengen, Canada, or Japan visa. If yes, you may be exempt from requiring a Mexican visa. If not, proceed to the next step.
Schedule your visa appointment through the VFS Global website or directly with the Embassy/Consulate based on your jurisdiction. Book at least 3–4 weeks in advance.
Collect all required documents as per the checklist. Arrange in order: Application form → Cover letter → Passport → Photos → Flight tickets → Hotel booking → Bank statement → ITR → Salary slips → NOC. Carry original + 1 photocopy set.
Arrive at the centre 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Carry your appointment confirmation, original passport, and all documents. Biometric enrollment (fingerprints + photograph) is mandatory for applicants aged 12 and above. Pay the visa fee at the centre.
Use the reference number from your acknowledgement receipt to track your application status. Standard processing takes 5–10 working days.
Collect your passport from the centre or via courier. Verify the visa sticker immediately: check your name, passport number, validity dates, and number of entries. Report any discrepancy before travelling.
The consular fee is approximately $36 USD, payable in the INR equivalent at the exchange rate set by the Embassy/VFS on the day of your appointment. An additional VFS service fee applies if submitting through VFS Global. All fees are collected in INR.
Morning slots fill first — book as early as possible if you prefer a morning appointment. Late afternoon slots tend to have the most availability.
Not all slots are available daily — VFS/Embassy releases slots based on centre capacity. Verify current operating hours (e.g., Chennai is strictly by prior appointment) before booking.
Total time at the centre: Plan for 60–90 minutes. Arrive within your 30-minute slot window and allow extra time for security queuing.
Every Mexico visa officer evaluates your application through a single lens: "Is this person likely to return to India, or are they a risk of overstaying?"
Your application must proactively answer this by demonstrating three things: financial stability (you can fund the trip without needing to work), employment or business ties (you have a reason to come back), and family or personal roots (property, dependents, long-term commitments in India).
Indian nationals holding a valid, multiple-entry visa from the United States, United Kingdom, Schengen Area, Canada, or Japan do NOT require a Mexican tourist visa for stays up to 180 days for tourism, transit, or business purposes. The foreign visa must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Mexico.
Planning a trip to Mexico? Whether you want to explore the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza, relax on the beaches of Cancun, or experience the vibrant culture of Mexico City, Indian citizens generally require a Mexico Tourist Visa before departure, unless they hold an exempting visa.
Indian nationals holding a valid, multiple-entry visa from the United States, United Kingdom, Schengen Area, Canada, or Japan do not need a separate Mexican tourist visa for stays up to 180 days. This exemption significantly simplifies travel for many Indian passport holders. If you do not hold one of these visas, you must apply for the Mexican visa through the designated submission centres.
Processing typically takes 5 to 10 working days after submission at the VFS centre or Embassy. New Delhi generally processes applications faster, while Chennai (Honorary Consulate) may take up to 15 working days. It is strongly recommended to apply at least 3–4 weeks before your intended travel date.
