The Uruguay Tourist Visa is a sticker visa physically affixed inside your passport by the Embassy of Uruguay after approval. Indian citizens require this visa to enter Uruguay for tourism, visiting family or friends, or short-term leisure travel.
This visa typically permits a stay of up to 90 days. With a valid Uruguay visa, you can explore the vibrant streets of Montevideo, the coastal beauty of Punta del Este, and the historic charm of Colonia del Sacramento.
During peak travel months, appointment slots at the VAC fill quickly, and Embassy processing may extend. Apply early and check the portal regularly for cancellations.
Demand dips and appointment slots open up. Processing typically adheres to the standard 10–15 working day timeline. This is the best window to apply stress-free.
Incomplete applications are the primary cause of delays. The Embassy may request additional documents, which pauses your processing clock. Submitting a decision-ready, well-organised file at lodgement is the only legitimate way to avoid delays.
Collect all required documents as per the checklist above. Arrange them in the order specified by the VAC. Carry original + 1 photocopy set. All documents must be in English or Spanish (or accompanied by a certified translation).
Schedule your visa appointment through the designated VFS Global portal for the New Delhi centre. Book at least 2–3 working weeks in advance to secure a slot.
Arrive at the VAC centre 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Carry your appointment confirmation, original passport, and all documents. Biometric enrollment (fingerprints + photograph) is mandatory unless explicitly exempted. Pay the visa fee at the centre.
Use the reference number from your acknowledgement receipt to track your application status on the VAC website. You will receive SMS and email notifications at each stage. Standard processing takes 10–15 working days.
Collect your passport from the VAC centre or via courier. Verify the visa sticker immediately: check your name, passport number, validity dates, and number of entries. Report any discrepancy to the Embassy before travelling.
On arrival, all applicants pass through a mandatory security screening. Only visa applicants are allowed inside. Keep all electronic devices outside or with a companion waiting outside.
After security, you receive a token number corresponding to your appointment slot. You will be called by your token number to proceed to the submission counter. Keep your appointment confirmation letter and complete document set ready.
The VAC staff review your complete document set — application form, passport, photographs, supporting documents, and financial proofs. They check for completeness, not accuracy (that is the Embassy's role).
All applicants must provide biometric data — all ten fingerprints and a live photograph. This takes approximately 5–10 minutes. Biometrics cannot be submitted on behalf of another person.
Visa processing fees are collected in Indian Rupees (INR). Accepted: debit card, credit card, UPI, and cash. Fees are non-refundable even in case of visa refusal.
After successful submission, you receive a reference number / acknowledgement slip. You choose how to receive your passport back — in-person collection from VAC, or via courier to your registered address.
Most applicants complete the entire process in 60 to 90 minutes. Morning slots tend to be busier. Afternoon slots are generally quicker.
Visa fees are subject to periodic revision by the Embassy. The INR amount fluctuates with the exchange rate. All fees are paid at the VAC centre on the day of your appointment. All fees are non-refundable regardless of outcome.
Morning slots fill first — book as early as possible if you prefer a morning appointment. Late afternoon slots tend to have the most availability.
Total time at the centre: Plan for 60–90 minutes. You arrive within your 30-minute slot window — allow extra time for security queuing during busy morning hours.
Every visa officer evaluates your application through a single lens: "Is this person likely to return to India, or are they a risk of overstaying?"
Your application must proactively answer this by demonstrating three things: financial stability (you can fund the trip without needing to work), employment or business ties (you have a reason to come back), and family or personal roots (property, dependents, long-term commitments in India).
A strong application does not just prove you want to visit Uruguay — it proves you have compelling reasons to return home. That is the mindset to keep while assembling every document in your file.
Having a criminal record or an ongoing legal case does not automatically disqualify you from applying for a Uruguay visa. Each application is assessed on its individual merits — the nature, severity, and recency of the case all play a role in the Embassy's evaluation.
Planning a trip to South America? Whether you want to explore the vibrant culture of Montevideo, relax on the beaches of Punta del Este, or discover the historic streets of Colonia del Sacramento, Indian citizens require a Uruguay Tourist Visa before departure.
A Uruguay Tourist Visa is a short-stay travel authorisation that allows you to visit Uruguay for tourism, family visits, or leisure travel. The application is processed through the Embassy of Uruguay in New Delhi, often facilitated via a designated Visa Application Centre (VAC) to streamline the submission process for applicants across India.
Processing typically takes 10 to 15 working days after submission at the VAC. It is strongly recommended to apply at least 3–4 weeks before your travel date to account for appointment availability and any additional document requests from the Embassy.
