You need a minimum of 2 full days (2 nights) in La Fortuna to experience the highlights without rushing. This allows time for a morning volcano hike, an afternoon at the hanging bridges or waterfall, and an evening soak in the volcanic hot springs.

Hike the Las Coladas Trail (1.2 km) for the best views of the volcanic crater. The trail is relatively easy and takes you right to the edge of the 1968 lava flow. Note: The old Arenal 1968 Trail is currently closed for ecological recovery.

• Tip: Arrive right at 8:00 AM to beat the clouds and spot wildlife like toucans and coatis.

Walk 15 suspension bridges and 6 fixed bridges through the rainforest canopy. This is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to spot sloths, monkeys, and exotic birds at eye level.

• Duration: 2–3 hours self-guided
• Tip: Hire a local naturalist guide at the entrance. Their spotting scopes will find wildlife you would otherwise miss.

Relax in naturally heated, mineral-rich waters pumped directly from the volcano. The area has over a dozen hot spring resorts ranging from luxurious to budget-friendly.

• Mid-Range: The Springs Resort (massive slides, great for families)
• Budget: Eco Termales or Baldi Hot Springs (more local vibe, lower cost)
• Cost: $60–$120 USD for premium; $30–$50 USD for budget options.

A stunning 70-meter (230 ft) cascade plunging into a turquoise swimming pool. The hike down involves roughly 500 steep stone steps (and 500 back up), but the reward is well worth the effort.

• Tip: Bring water shoes or sandals with good grip for swimming in the pool at the base.

For authentic, affordable meals, skip the tourist traps and eat at local "Sodas".

• Soda La Fortuna: Massive, delicious Casados (rice, beans, salad, plantain, meat) for under ₹1,500.
• Restaurantetypical Mi Casa: Excellent home-cooked Tico food, very friendly staff.
• Tip: Most Sodas close by 8:00 PM, so plan your dinners accordingly.

La Fortuna has a surprisingly diverse culinary scene for a small town, catering to international tourists.

• Don Rufino: Upscale dining with great steaks and a beautiful garden setting.
• Morgan's Bar & Grill: Excellent burgers, wings, and a lively atmosphere. Great for families.
• Soda La Parada: A slightly more upscale "Soda" experience with great local dishes and cocktails.

• Shared Shuttle: Interbus or Gray Line. Takes 3.5 hours. Cost: ~₹4,000 per person. Door-to-door service.
• Private Transfer: Takes 3 hours. Cost: ~₹12,000–₹15,000 per vehicle. Best for families of 3-4.
• Public Bus: Very cheap (~₹500) but takes 4-5 hours, departs from the "La Uruca" terminal in San José, and drops you at the La Fortuna central park.

• The "Boat-Van-Boat" Shuttle: The most popular and scenic route. You take a van to Lake Arenal, a 45-minute boat ride across the lake, and another van to La Fortuna. Total time: 3 to 3.5 hours.
• Cost: ~₹4,500 per person via shared shuttle.
• Private Driver: Can do the direct road route (via San Ramón) in about 3.5 hours, but the road is steep and winding. The boat route is highly recommended for the views.
