Bihar is divided by the River Ganges, which floods its fertile plains. Important Buddhist pilgrimage sites include the Bodhi Tree in Bodhgaya's Mahabodhi Temple, under which the Buddha allegedly meditated. In the state capital Patna, MahavirMandir temple is revered by Hindus, while Sikhs worship at the domed, riverside Gurdwara of Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji. The imposing Patna Museum displays sculptures from the ancient Mauryan Empire and a casket claimed to contain the Buddha's ashes. Patna is connected to the city of Hajipur to the north by Mahatma Gandhi Setu, a vast river bridge. In Nalanda, southeast of Patna, the ruins of a 5th-century university stand opposite an Archaeological Museum exhibiting Buddhist statues unearthed at the site. Southwest of Nalanda, near the holy city of Gaya, tigers, and leopards prowl through the forests and plains of Gautam Buddha Wildlife Sanctuary.
Mahabodhi Temple

Mahabodhi Temple is an ancient and restored, Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya. It is the location where the Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan is located off Bailey Road in Patna and was opened to the public as a zoo in 1973.
Patna Museum

Patna Museum is the state museum of the Indian state of Bihar. Started on 3 April 1917 during the British Raj to house the historical artifacts found in the vicinity of Patna.
Mahatma Gandhi Setu

Mahatma Gandhi Setu is a bridge over the river Ganges connecting Patna in the south to Hajipur in the north of Bihar. Its length is 5,750 meters and it is the second-longest river bridge in India.
Tomb of Sher Shah Suri

The tomb of Sher Shah Suri is in the Sasaram town of Bihar state. The tomb was built in memory of Emperor Sher Shah Suri, a Pathan from Bihar who defeated the Mughal Empire and founded the Suri Empire in northern India.

Nalanda University is considered the first residential university ever in the world. The university stands proof of the prominent role played by India in imparting knowledge. 
Bodhi Tree

Bodhi Tree is located about 100 km from Patna. Buddha achieved enlightenment under this tree and hence it is a pilgrim center for Buddhists who hail from all parts of the world.

Patna

Best Time To Visit Bihar

Most visitors arrive in Bihar from November to May when the weather is mild. Temperatures soar from May to June, with monsoon season from July to September. Major local events include the Rajgir Dance Festival and Sonepur Cattle Fair.
