Bhuj

Bhuj is a city in the state of Gujarat, western India. It is known for its centuries-old buildings. Close to Harmirsar Lake, the 18th-century AinaMahal palace is elaborately decorated with chandeliers, mirrors, and semi-precious stones. Nearby, the Italian Gothic style PragMahal palace has a bell tower that overlooks the city, and a courtyard containing a Hindu temple. Along the lake, Shree SwaminarayanMandir is a huge, marble-domed temple constructed in the aftermath of the earthquake. Nearby, the 19th-century Kutch Museum exhibits regional coins, musical instruments, and tribal artifacts. Close to the museum, the RamkundStepwell is a tank where stone carvings of Hindu deities surround stairs leading down to the water. West of the lake in tree-lined SharadBaug Park, SharadBaug Palace is a former royal residence that now exhibits paintings, furniture, and animals. On the outskirts of the city, a Hindu temple and the ruins of an 18th-century fort stand atop Bhujia Hill.
