About Harihareshwar
Harihareshwar is a town in Raigad district, in Maharashtra, India. It is surrounded by three hills named Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, and Pushpadri. The river Savitri enters the Arabian Sea from the town of Harihareshwar. Towards the north of the town is the temple of Lord Harihareshwar, said to have been blessed by Lord Shiva. Hence Harihareshwar is often referred to as Dev-Ghar or "house of God". Besides a major pilgrimage center, Harihareshwar is a popular beach resort with two beaches, one to the north and the other to the south of the temple. Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation has a resort on the south beach. Harihareshwar, along with Shrivardhan and Diveagar Beach forms a popular weekend beach destination from Pune and Mumbai. The Kalbhairav Jayanti Utsav was initiated by Mr. Yashawant Balawant Nagle who was Sardar of Queen of Janjira Administering Harihareshwar village. He donated quite a large part of his property for funding the Temple management.
Harihareshwar Temple
Harihareshwar temple with the main deities as Brahma Vishnu and Shiva is believed to be from the 16th century. Kuladaivat or the family deity of the Peshwas, Harihareshwar temple complex was renovated by them in 1723.
Harihareshwar Beach
Harihareshwar is one of the finest places in Konkan. It is famous for a temple on the seashore as well as the beach and the natural beauties here. Harihareshwar is only 18 km from Shrivardhan. If one wants to enjoy traveling by sea, the launches are also available between the two towns.
Kondivli Beach
Kondivili Beach is famed for sports activities and is situated at a distance of about 5 km from Shrivardhan Beach. The popular activities that you can indulge in at this beach are paragliding and surfing.
Ganesh Gully
Situated on the Shivachi tekdi, lies a narrow culvert, approx 3 feet wide, that is called Ganesh Gully. At the end of the culvert lies a Ganesh etched on the rock face to the left. During high tides, the Ganesh is submerged in the seawater. It is visible only during low tides as the Ganesh is submerged nearly 30 feet below sea level.
Bagmandala Village
Bagmandala is a small little village situated a few meters away from the city of Harihareshwar. It is a lovely place that serves as a major attraction here. Bagmandala is famous for being the residing spot of the Peshwa of the Maratha Kingdom during their reign in India for several years.
Best Time To Visit Harihareshwar
The best time to visit Harihareshwar is from October to March. The summer days from March to May are hot with the average temperature being around 40°C. Evenings and nights are cool and pleasant, making it a great time to go for walks, shopping, or eating out. During the monsoon season from June to September the region is under the influence of the Southwest monsoon and a moderate amount of rainfall is received. Towards the end of monsoon season, the weather becomes dry, and cool sea breezes begin to blow. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated during this season. During winters from December to February, the weather is cool and nights are a bit chilly. The average temperature during the nights is around 16°C. Mahashivaratri is a popular festival and is celebrated during the month of February.
