About Finland
Finland is a Northern European nation bordering Sweden, Norway, and Russia. Its capital, Helsinki, occupies a peninsula and surrounding islands in the Baltic Sea. Helsinki is home to the 18th-century sea fortress Suomenlinna, the fashionable Design District, and diverse museums. The Northern Lights can be seen from the country's Arctic Lapland province, a vast wilderness with national parks and ski resorts. Kayaking, boat tours, and island hopping are popular activities around Helsinki and in the Archipelago Sea around Turku. The country's interior, with thousands of lakes, is a summer destination with holiday cabins, swimming, fishing, and sailing. Built on an isthmus between two large lakes, the industrial city of Tampere is home to the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame museum. Savonlinna is known for its 15th-century Olavinlinna island castle. East of Helsinki, Porvoo has a medieval old town and an Iron Age fortress. Finland is renowned for its saunas and iconic designs, including Marimekko fabrics, Iittala glass, and Aalto furniture.
Suomenlinna
Suomenlinna or Sveaborg is an inhabited sea fortress built on eight islands about 4 km southeast of the city center of Helsinki. Suomenlinna is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is popular with tourists and locals, who enjoy it as a picturesque picnic site.
Santa Claus Village
Santa Claus Village is an amusement park in Rovaniemi in the Lapland region of Finland and the official hometown of Santa Claus. You can enjoy at the museum about the history and evolution of snowmobiles in the Arctic areas. A Santa Claus's Office is located inside the main building of the Village, for visitors to take photographs and chat with Santa Claus. However, there is an "office hour" for Santa Claus.
Market Square
Market Square is a central square in Helsinki, Finland. It is located in central Helsinki, at the eastern end of Esplanadi and bordering the Baltic Sea to the south and Katajanokka to the east. The Presidential Palace, Helsinki City Hall, Swedish Embassy, and the Stora Enso Headquarters building are all located adjacent to Market Square. From spring to autumn, the Market Square is active with vendors selling fresh Finnish food and souvenirs. There are also many outdoor cafés at the square.
Levi
Levi is a fell located in Finnish Lapland and the largest ski resort in Finland. Levi is an early stop on the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit, hosting slaloms in mid-November. The slopes in Levi are mostly suitable for beginners or intermediates, but there are also three black slopes for experts. The skiing and snowboarding season in Levi is fairly long, often lasting from October to mid-May.
Rukatunturi
Rukatunturi is 490 meters high fell and a ski resort in Kuusamo, Finland. Apart from downhill skiing, there is over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Also, snowmobiles can be rented to enjoy some of the area's 600 km of snowmobile routes. Ruka is also the southern end of the Karhunkierros hiking trail. Ruka has turned into a diverse tourist centre whose year-round usage is growing.
Sibelius Monument
Sibelius Monument by Eila Hiltunen is dedicated to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The monument is located at the Sibelius Park in the district of Töölö in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland. It consists of series of more than 600 hollow steel pipes welded together in a wave-like pattern.
Nuuksio National Park
Nuuksio National Park is one of Finland's 40 national parks. The park spreads over an area of forests and lakes in Espoo, Kirkkonummi, and Vihti. The name is derived from the Nuuksio district of Espoo. Within the park, there are eight marked trails for hiking. These trails vary in length and difficulty, being between 1.5 km and 17 km long. It has designated spots for grilling, camping, and skiing are scattered across the park.
Ateneum
Ateneum is an art museum in Helsinki, Finland, and one of the three museums forming the Finnish National Gallery. It has the biggest collections of classical art in Finland. The collections of Ateneum include Finnish art extensively from 18th-century rococo portraiture to the experimental art movements of the 20th century. The collections also include some 650 international works of art.
Olavinlinna
Olavinlinna is a 15th-century three-tower castle located in Savonlinna. It is built on an island in the Kyrönsalmi strait that connects the lakes Haukivesi and Pihlajavesi and is the northernmost medieval stone fortress still standing. The castle hosts several small exhibitions, including the Castle Museum which displays artefacts found in the castle or related to it, and the Orthodox Museum which displays icons and other religious artefacts both from Finland and Russia.
Turku Castle
Turku Castle is a medieval building in the city of Turku in Finland. Together with Turku Cathedral, the castle is one of the oldest buildings still in use and the largest surviving medieval building in Finland. It was founded in the late 13th century and stands on the banks of the Aura River. The castle served as a bastion and administrative centre in Eastland, as Finland was known during its time as a province of Sweden.
Helsinki
Helsinki, Finland’s southern capital, sits on a peninsula in the Gulf of Finland. Its central avenue, Mannerheimintie, is flanked by institutions including the National Museum, tracing Finnish history from the Stone Age to the present. Also on Mannerheimintie are the imposing Parliament House and Kiasma, a contemporary art museum. Ornate red-brick Uspenski Cathedral overlooks a harbor.
Rovaniemi
Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland, in northern Finland. Almost totally destroyed during World War II, today it’s a modern city known for being the "official" home town of Santa Claus, and for viewing the Northern Lights. It’s home to Arktikum, a museum and science center exploring the Arctic region and the history of Finnish Lapland. The Science Centre Pilke features interactive exhibits on northern forests.

The best time to visit Finland depends on what you’d like to experience. The months of December to March is the best time for plenty of snow and winter activities. April to May is the period for spring time sun and the revival of nature. July and August for long and warm summer days and plenty of events.
