Berlin, Germany’s capital, dates to the 13th century. Reminders of the city's turbulent 20th-century history include its Holocaust memorial and the Berlin Wall's graffitied remains. Divided during the Cold War, its 18th-century Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of reunification. Shopping includes high-end boutiques along Kurfürstendamm, department stores on bustling Friedrichstraße, and vintage shops in bohemian Kreuzberg.
Brandenburg Gate

Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin, built on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II and is one of the best-known landmarks of Germany. The Brandenburg Gate was often a site for major historical events and is today considered not only as a symbol of the tumultuous history of Europe and Germany but also of European unity and peace.
Reichstag

Reichstag is a historic edifice in Berlin constructed to house the Imperial Diet of the German Empire. The large glass dome at the very top of the Reichstag has a 360-degree view of the surrounding Berlin cityscape. The main hall of the parliament below can also be seen from inside the dome, and natural light from above radiates down to the parliament floor.
Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz is a large public square and transport hub in the central Mitte district of Berlin. The square is named after the Russian Tsar Alexander I and is often referred to simply as Alex. It is a popular starting point for tourists, with many attractions including the Fernsehturm, the Nikolai Quarter, and the Rotes Rathaus situated nearby. Alexanderplatz is still one of Berlin's major commercial areas, housing various shopping malls, department stores, and other large retail locations.
Fernsehturm

The Berliner Fernsehturm or Fernsehturm Berlin is a television tower in central Berlin. It remains a landmark today, visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin. It serves as a viewing tower with an observation deck including a bar at a height of 203 meters, as well as a rotating restaurant. The tower has become one of the most prominent symbols of the country and is often in the establishing shot of films set in Berlin.
Berlin Wall

Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. The Wall cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany, including East Berlin. The Berlin Wall stood until November 9, 1989, when the head of the East German Communist Party announced that citizens of the GDR could cross the border whenever they pleased. To this day, the Berlin Wall remains one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of the Cold War.
Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie was the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War, as named by the Western Allies. The barrier and checkpoint booth, the flag, and the sandbags are all based on the original site and are a popular subject for photos. Checkpoint Charlie figures in numerous Cold War-era espionage and political novels and films.
Potsdamer Platz

Potsdamer Platz is an important public square and traffic intersection in the center of Berlin. The square gets its name from the Potsdamer Tor, the gate that stood on the main road from Berlin to Potsdam since the 18th century. Potsdamer Platz in the heart of the city and a popular shopping and nightlife district.
Gendarmenmarkt

Gendarmenmarkt is the most beautiful square in Berlin and the site of an architectural ensemble including the Berlin concert hall and the French and German Churches. In the centre of the square stands a monumental statue of poet Friedrich Schiller. Every summer, Gendarmenmarkt is the romantic setting for the Classic Open Air series of concerts.
Charlottenburg Palace

Schloss Charlottenburg is a Baroque palace in Berlin. It includes much lavish internal decoration in baroque and rococo styles. A large formal garden surrounded by woodland was added behind the palace, including a belvedere, a mausoleum, a theatre, and a pavilion. The palace and its gardens are a major tourist attraction.
Topography of Terror

Topography of Terror is an outdoor and indoor history museum in Berlin. It is a place where terror is tangible, a place of remembrance and a warning from history, the Topography of Terror exhibition is located on the site where between 1933 and 1945 the principal instruments of Nazi persecution and terror were located and is the headquarters of the Gestapo.
