Heidelberg is a town on the Neckar River in southwestern Germany. It’s known for venerable Heidelberg University, founded in the 14th century. Gothic Heiliggeistkirche church towers over the cafe-lined Marktplatz, a town square in the Altstadt. The red-sandstone ruins of Heidelberg Castle, a noted example of Renaissance architecture, stand on Königstuhl hill. Visitors can ride the Bergbahn funicular to reach Heidelberg Castle and its gardens, which have sweeping views over the river and the baroque Altstadt. At night, the thriving student community fills beer gardens and traditional dark-wood taverns. Rowdy students were once confined in the university’s Studentenkarzer (Student Jail), and its cell walls remain etched with historic graffiti. The 18th-century Alte Brücke across the river has a medieval gate, and visitors touch its monkey statue to ensure a return to the city. Across the river, the mountainside Philosophers’ Way leads to 12th-century Neuburg Abbey.
Heidelberg Castle

Heidelberg Castle is a ruin in Germany and a landmark of Heidelberg. The castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps. The castle is a combination of several buildings surrounding an inner courtyard, put together with a haphazard look. Each building highlights a different period of German architecture. The castle gardens are built upon several terraces, were made up of many flower beds, mazes and arbors, numerous sculptures, a heated greenhouse with orange trees, large fish ponds, waterfalls, and a man-made grotto for musical water arts.
Church of the Holy Spirit

Church of the Holy Spirit is the most famous church in Heidelberg. It stands in the middle of the market place in the old center of Heidelberg not far from the Heidelberg Castle. The steeple of the church, rising above the roofs, dominates the town. Interesting features of the church are the tall tower and the series of large Gothic-style windows. In the church’s walls are a number of stalls, where vendors sell religious paraphernalia and souvenirs.
Studentenkarzer

Studentenkarzer or student's prison is located at the back of the Old University in Augustinergasse. From 1778 until 1914, students were imprisoned for common offenses. Depending on the seriousness of the offense, imprisonment would last from three days to four weeks.
Pharmacy Museum

Pharmacy Museum situated at the Heidelberg Castle offers fascinating insights into the history of pharmaceutics, from antiquity to the 21st century. Entrance to the museum is included in the Schlossticket. Besides substances originating from plants, an assortment of curiosities is hidden among the approximately 1,000 remedies. In the 16th century, the pulverized mummy was valued as a remedy for cough, sore throat, a broken heart, shivers, and headache.
President Friedrich Ebert Memorial

President Friedrich Ebert Memorial in Heidelberg commemorates the life and work of Friedrich Ebert, who was born in the house on 4 February 1871. A core piece of the memorial place in the small apartment, where Friedrich Ebert was born, the seventh of the nine children of a master tailor. A permanent exhibition, which consists of ten rooms, follows the political stations of Ebert's life and portrays the contemporary background to each section.

Schloss Schwetzingen

Schloss Schwetzingen, or Schwetzingen Palace is a schloss in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Schwetzingen was the summer residence of the Electors Palatine Charles III Philip and Charles IV Theodore and is most notable for its spacious and ornate gardens. The compounds also feature the Schlosstheater Schwetzingen, the principal venue for the annual Schwetzingen Festival.
Castle Road

Castle Road called Burgenstraße in German, is over 1,200 km long scenic theme route in southern Germany along 70 castles. It was established in 1954 and leads through the Neckar valley, the Hohenlohe Plateau, the Franconian Heights, Franconian Switzerland, the Fichtelgebirge, and the Kaiserwald.
Königstuhl

Königstuhl is a 567.8 meters high hill in the Odenwald Mountains and in the city of Heidelberg, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The Königstuhl summit allows visitors views of the city of Heidelberg and the Neckar river. On days with good conditions, the view extends to the Pfaelzerwald or Palatinate Forest, which is roughly 40 to 50 km away.
Dilsberg Castle

Dilsberg Castle is a ruined castle located in Neckargemünd. American writer Mark Twain visited the castle in the 1870s and wrote about it in A Tramp Abroad. Dilsberg Fortress Ruins are known for their sweeping 360° views of the Neckar valley and the Odenwald forest. The other highlight is a subterranean passageway in the depths of the well.
