New Zealand offers some great shopping opportunities and Maori arts and crafts are popular souvenirs. There is some beautifully designed jewelry, textiles, and clothing for sale, which make great gifts and purchases. The shellfish found along the New Zealand coast are called paua and make for great jewelry and decorative items. There are also plenty of excellent sheepskin products for sale, including rugs, shoes, bags, and jackets. Unique New Zealand products have a ‘Made in New Zealand’ seal and really help the local economy.
Auckland has the best shopping in New Zealand from chic boutiques and malls to duty-free shops. Upscale stores can be found along Nuffield Street and less expensive options are in the Newmarket area. Those looking for antiques should head to the many stores on Manukau Road. The most popular mall is the Westfield St Luke’s Shopping Centre.
Shopping in Wellington is more compact, with many boutiques located along the Quay, which are fun to stroll. Smaller niche stores can be found on Tinakori Road, but the main shopping mall is the Cuba Mall.
