Haryana
Haryana is a North Indian state surrounding New Delhi on three sides. The Yamuna River runs along its eastern border with Uttar Pradesh. Shared with Punjab, the state capital Chandigarh is known for its modernist buildings and gridlike street plan designed by Swiss architect, Le Corbusier. The Zakir Hussain Rose Garden features 1,600 species, while its Rock Garden showcases sculptures made with recycled materials. More than 250 species of Indian and migratory birds, including rose-ringed parakeets and little egrets, have been spotted at Sultanpur National Park, near the industrial city of Gurgaon. Filled by monsoon rains and framed by the hills of the Aravalli Range, the 10th-century reservoir of Surajkund near the large city of Faridabad is noted for its February Crafts Mela showcasing Indian art and cuisine. Just southwest is Damdama Lake, popular for boating and adventure sports. To the north, Hindu pilgrims bathe in the vast water tank of Brahma Sarovar in the town of Thanesar.
