Manali

Manali is a high-altitude Himalayan resort town in India’s northern Himachal Pradesh state. It has a reputation as a backpacking center and honeymoon destination. Set on the Beas River, it’s a gateway for skiing in the Solang Valley and trekking in Parvati Valley. It's also a jumping-off point for paragliding, rafting, and mountaineering in the PirPanjalmountains, home to 4,000m-high Rohtang Pass. The Mall Road and its bazaar are the town’s focal point, while the Old Manali neighborhood is home to traditional stone buildings, apple orchards, and the Hindu Manu Temple. Across the Manaslu River on a forested hilltop is a wood-carved Hadimba Devi Temple, built-in 1553 and dedicated to a Hindu goddess. The Museum of Himachal Culture and Folk Art preserves local crafts and heritage. In the Tibetan quarter, the Buddhist monastery GadhanThekchhokling is recognizable by its yellow, pagoda-style roof. East of the Beas River is Vashisht, a village known for its hot springs.

Best Time To Visit Manali

The best time to visit Manali is throughout the year, except monsoon. The summer season, May and June draws maximum tourist crowds in Manali. It is the ideal time for trekking, hiking, paragliding, mountain sports, rafting, and zorbing. For winter activities like skiing and ice skating, it is best to come between November and February, as snow is a common sight. The temperature during the summer season in Manali ranges from 10°C to 25°C. The weather remains pleasant all day and starts dropping down by the end of the day. You can enjoy activities such as camping, trekking, and white-water river rafting at places such as Raison and Solang Valley. Winters reach Manali with the coming of October and last till February. During winters, the temperature drops down to a minimum of 1°C. It is suggested to carry some woolens if traveling during this season. The Winter season is the best time to visit Manali. It is the time when you can enjoy snowfall and spend a great time while viewing those beautiful snow-capped mountains.
