Maharashtra
Maharashtra, a state spanning west-central India, is best known for its fast-paced capital, Mumbai formerly Bombay. This sprawling metropolis is the seat of the Bollywood film industry. It also has sites like the British Raj-era Gateway of India monument and cave temples at Elephanta Island. To the south is the rustic, beach-lined Konkan Coast. Gateway of India

Pune

Lonavla

Aurangabad
Aurangabad is a city in Maharashtra state, in India. It’s known for the 17th-century marble Bibi Ka Maqbara shrine, styled on the Taj Mahal. The nearby Shivaji Maharaj Museum, dedicated to the Maratha king Shivaji, displays war weapons and a coin collection. North of the city, the Aurangabad Caves comprise ancient, rock-cut Buddhist shrines. West of the city, battlements surround the medieval Daulatabad Fort.
Mahabaleshwar
Mahabaleshwar is a hill station in India's forested Western Ghats range, south of Mumbai. It features several elevated viewing points, such as Arthur’s Seat. West of here is centuries-old Pratapgad Fort, perched atop a mountain spur. East, Lingmala Waterfall tumbles off a sheer cliff. Colorful boats dot Venna Lake, while five rivers meet at Panch Ganga Temple to the north.
Panchgani
Panchgani is a hill station southeast of Mumbai in India’s Maharashtra state. It’s known for the Table Land, a huge volcanic plateau. Lookouts like Sydney Point and Parsi Point offer views of Dhom Dam lake and Kamalgad Fort, used as a prison by the British in the early 19th century. To the southeast, the Rajpuri Caves are surrounded by sacred ponds and contain a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Kartikeya.
Shirdi
Shirdi is a town in the state of Maharashtra, in western India. It's known as the former home of revered spiritual leader Sai Baba and as a major pilgrimage site. Devotees gather daily at the Sai Baba Temple complex to honor his legacy. Here, the Samadhi Mandir shrine has an ornate marble statue of Sai Baba, alongside his tomb. Close by are Dwarkamai, a mosque where Sai Baba once lived, and tree-lined Lendi Garden.
Nashik
Nashik is an ancient holy city in Maharashtra, a state in western India. It’s known for its links to the “Ramayana” epic poem. On the Godavari River is Panchavati, a temple complex. Nearby, Lord Rama was thought to have bathed at Ram Kund water tank, today attended by Hindu devotees. Shri Kalaram Sansthan Mandir is an ancient shrine to Rama, while Rama and Sita are said to have worshipped at Sita Gufaa caves.
Ganpatiphule
Ganpatipule is a town on the Konkan Coast of western India. It’s known for its beaches, such as Ganpatipule Beach and nearby Aare Ware Beach. On Ganpatipule Beach, the centuries-old Swayambhu Ganpati Temple is a pilgrimage site and houses a large orange statue of Ganesh. Prachin Konkan is an open-air museum with models depicting traditional Konkan life. Jaigad Fort and a British-built lighthouse lie to the north.
Ratnagiri
Ratnāgiri is a port city on the Arabian Sea coast in Ratnagiri District in the southwestern part of Maharashtra, India. The district is a part of the Konkan division of Maharashtra.
Matheran
Matheran is a hill station, near Mumbai, in the west Indian state of Maharashtra. It’s known for its mild climate and well-preserved colonial architecture. Motor vehicles are banned and many visitors arrive by narrow-gauge railway on the 1907 Neral–Matheran Toy Train. The Panorama Point lookout offers views across the mountains of the Western Ghats. Louisa Point has views of waterfalls and the ancient Prabal Fort.
Kolad
Kolad is a village in Raigad district, Maharashtra State, India. It is 117 km from Mumbai on the National Highway no 17. It lies on the banks of River Kundalika.
Bhandardara
Bhandardara is a holiday resort village near Igatpuri, in the western ghats of India. The village is located in the Ahmednagar district of the state of Maharashtra, about 185 kilometers from Mumbai. Bhandardara sits by the Pravara River, and the natural environment, waterfalls, mountains, Wilson dam, Arthur lake, and Randha falls are tourist attractions. Bhandardara attractions include Wilson Dam and Arthur Lake. The recent attraction in this place is the Fireflies camp in the Purushwadi area. There are a number of historic and natural places of interest near the dam. From Bhandardara, visitors can climb up to see the Ratangad and Harishchandragad fort. Or, visitors can follow the trails that lead to Ajoba and Ghanchakkar peaks. The highest peak in Maharashtra, Mount Kalsubai is 1646 m, and the starting point for this trek is Bari Village, located 12 km away from Bhandardara. Atop, there is a small temple located at the summit, with views of Sahyadris and Bhandardara. The toughest trio-forts in Sahyadri namely Alang Fort, Madangad fort, and Kulang gad located on the southern side. A very narrow Sandhan valley is on the Western side of the dam.
Divegar
Diveagar is a village located in ShrivardhanTaluka, Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra, approximately 170 kilometers south of Mumbai. The area is peaceful, clean, and sparsely populated. The region includes a fishing settlement, a beach, a temple, local businesses engaged in coconut and beetle nut tree farming, and some tourism businesses such as restaurants, cottage rentals and hotels, and six villages: Velās, Musalmāndi, Agar Panchaitan, Diveagar, BorlaiPanchaitan, and Kārle. The beach, facing the Arabian Sea, is approximately four kilometers long and undeveloped. At the north end of the beach where a small stream enters the ocean there is the fishing settlement, Velas Agar, and some paddy farming, while at the south end there is a sanctuary for migratory seabirds. Nearby, there is a small fishing village, where vendors sell fresh fish, which goes by name of Bharadkhol. The beach is accessible from the Mumbai-Goa highway via Kolad or Karnala. The beach contains a number of suru trees, which are common to coastal Maharashtra. The access to the beach has a dense cover of belu trees, which are otherwise uncommon in the area.
Chiplun
Chiplun is a city and a tehsil in Ratnagiri district in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is the headquarter of Chiplun taluka. Located on the Mumbai–Goa highway in western India. The city is about 320 km south of Mumbai in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. It is a fast developing city in Konkan with a strong cultural background. The name Chiplun means "The abode of Lord Parshuram."
Dapoli
Dapoli is a town in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. It is 215 km from the state capital of Mumbai. Dapoli is also called Camp Dapoli as the British set their camps in Dapoli. Taboda

The wildlife sanctuary was established to protect endangered species of tigers from being hunted or poached. It is one of the oldest and largest national parks in India. It consists of a versatile range of flora and fauna.
Khandala
Khandala is a hill station in the Western Ghat mountains of Maharashtra, western India. It's home to vantage spots including Sunset Point and Rajmachi Point, with views of Rajmachi Fort. Kune Falls is a 3-tiered waterfall set in a dramatic valley. Waterfalls surround the TamhiniGhat mountain pass. East of town, the Bhaja and Karla caves are ancient, Buddhist rock-cut shrines featuring intricate carvings and pillars.
Tarkali
Tarkarli is a village in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. On the shores of the Arabian Sea, it’s known for the white sands and clear waters of Tarkarli Beach, a popular spot for water sports. Sindhudurg Fort, on an island just off the coast, was built in the 17th century by the Maratha rulers. To the south, the peaceful backwaters of the Karli River are lined with palm trees and inhabited by dolphins.
Bhimashankar
Bhimashankar Temple is a Jyotirlinga shrine located 50 km northwest of Khed, near Pune, in India. It is located 127 km from Shivaji Nagar in the Ghat region of the Sahyadri hills.
Rajmachi
Rajmachi Fort is one of the many historical forts in the rugged hills of the Sahyadri mountains. It consists of two twin fortresses Shriwardhan Ballekilla and Manaranjan Balekilla, with a wide machi surrounding the two Balekillas. Udhewadi is a small village of about 22 houses situated on the machi, at the southern foot of Manaranjan Balekilla of Rajmachi Fort. Rajmachi Fort is a popular destination for nature lovers, trekkers, and for outdoor campers. In the rainy season from mid-June to mid-October, this region is all the more beautiful with clouds, silvery waterfalls, streams, lush green forests, and meadows. Local families at Udhewadi on Fort Rajmachi welcome trekkers and nature lovers. The local families provide food and camping accommodation to the tourists. Tourism has enabled the local community to give up traditional occupations like agriculture and cattle rearing. Historically, Rajmachi Fort was a strategic fort to control Borghat which was a historical trade route. It was in the possession of the Angre family, the head of the Maratha navy in the 18th century. There are historical water reservoirs and ruins of fortifications, ramparts, and gateways on both the Ballekillas.
Amboli
Amboli is a hill station in south Maharashtra, India. At an altitude of 690 meters, it is the last hill station before the coastal highlands of Goa. Amboli lies in the Sahayadri Hills of Western India, one of the world's "Eco Hot-Spots" and it abounds in unusual flora and fauna. However, as in the other parts of the Sahyadri Hills, denudation of the forest cover and unregulated government-assisted development are gradually ruining a once-pristine environment. Historically, Amboli village came into being as one of the staging posts along the road from Vengurla port to the city of Belgaum, which was extensively used by the British to supply their garrisons in the south and central India. The source of the Hiranyakeshi river lies in the hills around Amboli village, and an ancient Shiva temple sits at the cave where the water emerges. The main attraction for tourists is the incredibly-high rainfall and the numerous waterfalls and mist during the monsoons. Legend has it that there are 108 Shiva temples in and around Amboli, of which only a dozen have been uncovered, one as recently as 2005.
Kamshet
Kamshet is located in Pune district in the state of Maharashtra, India, 110 km from Mumbai City, and 45 km from Pune in Pune district. It is 16 km from the twin hill stations of Khandala and Lonavala and is accessible by road and rail from Mumbai and Pune. Kamshet is home to small villages that are built in the traditional style with mud, thatch, and reeds.
Malvan
Malvan is a town and taluka in Sindhudurg District, the southernmost district of Maharashtra State, India, well known for the historically important Sindhudurg Fort. Malvantaluka consists of villages such as AangnechiWadi, Achra, KhalchiDevli, Jamdul, Juva, Pankhol, Talasheel, and Sarjekot. The main occupation here is fishing with the staple diet of the local people fish curry and rice. The town produces Alphonso mangoes and is also known for sweets such as MalvaniKhaja made from gram-besan flour and coated jaggery as well as MalvaniLadoos. MalvaniDashavtar, a drama-play based on mythological stories, is an important cultural element of the area. Several apocryphal and some more credible stories related to the name Malvan exist. Salt producers use the term Mahalavan to describe a region rich in salt, a compound word from "Maha" meaning great, and "lavan" meaning plantation. Another possibility is a phonetic derivative of the compound of "Mad" and "Ban", Malvani for coconut trees and garden respectively, relating to a large number of coconut trees in the region.
Kashid
Kashid is a beach town on the shores of the Arabian Sea, in the North Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is located 30 km from Alibag and 135 km from Mumbai on the Alibag-Murud road.
Chikhaldhara
Chikhaldara is a Hill Station and a municipal council in Amravati district in the Indian state of Maharashtra Featured in the epic of the Mahabharata, this is the place where Bheema killed the villainous Keechaka in a herculean bout and then threw him into the valley. It thus came to be known as Keechakadara—Chikhaldara is its corruption. But there's more to Chikhaldara. The sole hill resort in the Vidarbha region, it is situated at an altitude of 1118 m with the highest variant point 1188m, and has the added dimension of being the only coffee-growing area in Maharashtra. Chikhaldara has an annual rainfall of 154cm. Temperature varies from 39°C in summer to 5°C in winter. The best months to visit are from October to June. It abounds in wildlife Tiger, panthers, sloth bears, sambar, wild boar, and even the rarely seen wild dogs. Close by is the famous Melghat Tiger Project which has 82 tigers. The scenic beauty of Chikhaldara can be enjoyed from Hurricane Point, Prospect Point, and Devi Point. Other interesting excursions include Gavilgad and Narnala Fort, the Pandit Nehru Botanical Gardens, the Tribal Museum, and the Semadoh Lake.
Harihareshwar
Harihareshwar is surrounded by three hills named Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, and Pushpadri. The river Savitri enters the Arabian Sea from the town of Harihareshwar. Towards the north of the town is the temple of Lord Harihareshwar, said to have been blessed by Lord Shiva. Hence Harihareshwar is often referred to as Dev-Ghar or "house of God". Besides a major pilgrimage center, Harihareshwar is a popular beach resort with two beaches, one to the north and the other to the south of the temple. Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation has a resort on the south beach. Harihareshwar, along with Shrivardhan and Diveagar Beach forms a popular weekend beach destination from Pune and Mumbai. The Kalbhairav Jayanti Utsav was initiated by Mr. Yashawant Balawant Nagle who was Sardar of Queen of Janjira administering Harihareshwar village.
Malshej Ghat
Malshej Ghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range in the Thane-Pune Road of Maharashtra, India. The site is nestled in the lofty rugged hills of the Western Ghats.
Raigad
Raigad District is a district in the state of Maharashtra, India. Formerly called the Kolaba district, the district was renamed after Raigad, the fort that was the former capital of the Maratha leader Shivaji Maharaj, and is located in the interior regions of the district, in dense forests on a west-facing spur of the Western Ghats of Sahyadri range. The district is bounded by Mumbai Harbour to the northwest, Thane District to the north, Pune District to the east, Ratnagiri district to the south, and the Arabian Sea to the west. It includes the large natural harbor of Pen-Mandwa, which is immediately south of Mumbai harbor, and forming a single landform with it. The northern part of the district is included in the planned metropolis of Navi Mumbai, and its port, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
Alibag
Alibag, also known as Alibaug, is a coastal town, just south of Mumbai, in western India. It’s known for its beaches like Alibag Beach and Varsoli Beach. Just offshore, 17th-century Kolaba Fort has carvings of tigers and elephants, and temples dedicated to Hindu gods. To the south, Portuguese-built Korlai Fort dates from 1521 and includes a lighthouse. The island fort of Janjira has high walls, turrets, and cannons.
Lavasa
Lavasa is a private, planned city being built near Pune. It is stylistically based on the Italian town Portofino, with a street and several buildings bearing the name of that town.
Jejuri
Jejuri is a city and a municipal council in Pune district in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. It is famous for the main temple of Lord Khandoba.
Ahmednagar
Ahmednagar is a city in Ahmednagar district in the state of Maharashtra, India, about 120 km northeast of Pune and 114 km from Aurangabad. Ahmednagar takes its name from Ahmad Nizam Shah I, who founded the town in 1494 on the site of a battlefield where he won a battle against superior Bahamani forces. It was close to the site of the village of Bhingar. With the breakup of the Bahmani Sultanate, Ahmad established a new sultanate in Ahmednagar, also known as Nizam Shahi dynasty. Ahmednagar has several dozen buildings and sites from the Nizam Shahi period. Ahmednagar Fort, once considered almost impregnable, was used by the British to house Jawaharlal Nehru and other Indian Nationalists before Indian independence. A few rooms there have been converted to a museum. During his confinement by the British at Ahmednagar Fort in 1944, Nehru wrote the famous book The Discovery of India. Ahmednagar is home to the Indian Armoured Corps Centre & School, the Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre, the Vehicle Research and Development Establishment and the Controllerate of Quality Assurance Vehicles.
Karnala
Karnala is a hill fort in the Raigad district about 10 km from Panvel city. Currently, it is a protected place lying within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary.
Igatpuri
Igatpuri is a town and hill station in the Western Ghat mountains of Maharashtra, western India. The huge DhammaGiri academy is dedicated to the teaching of Vipassana meditation. At its entrance stands Myanmar Gate, a golden pagoda. North, hilltop Tringalwadi Fort has a small temple. Southeast, trails lead up to Kalsubai Peak. The surrounding KalsubaiHarishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary is home to leopards and deer.

Satara
Satara is a city located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India, near the confluence of the river Krishna and its tributary river Venna. The city was established in the 16th century and was the seat of Raja of Satara Chhatrapati Shahu. It is the headquarters of SataraTahsil, as well as Satara District. The city gets the name from Seven-forts which are close to the city. Satara is well known for its sweet kandipedhe. Satara City has a unique statue of Shivaji standing near a canon at Powai Naka Kas plateau / Flower plateau is now a World Natural Heritage site.
Kolhapur
Kolhapur is a city on the banks of the Panchaganga River, in the west Indian state of Maharashtra. It’s known for its temples, like the ancient Mahalakshmi Temple, a Hindu pilgrimage site. The Bhavani Mandap is an imposing old palace with a small museum displaying stuffed wild animals. Close by, Rankala Lake is surrounded by gardens. The hilltop Jyotiba Temple complex is on the city's outskirts.
Solapur
Solapur is a city located in the south-western region of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Solapur is located on major road and rail routes between Mumbai and Hyderabad, with a branch line to the cities of Bijapur and Gadag in the neighboring state of Karnataka. Solapur district has the highest number of sugar factories in Maharashtra state as well as in India.

Nagpur
Nagpur is a large city in the central Indian state of Maharashtra. The 19th-century Nagpur Central Museum displays items found locally, including fossils, sarcophagi, and Mughal weaponry. The Raman Science Centre has hands-on exhibits and a planetarium. Sitabuldi Fort, in the Sitabuldi Hills, was the site of an 1817 battle. To the southwest, the immense, domed Deekshabhoomi is a Buddhist monument and pilgrimage site.
Murud
Murud is a taluka city and a municipal council in Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Situated at a distance of 42 km from Alibag, Murud is a tourist destination. The Palace of Nawab is located in Murud. The palace was built in 1885 for administration purposes. The palace is still owned by the descendants of the Nawab and is private property.
Dahanu
Dahanu is a coastal town and a municipal council in the Palghar district of Maharashtra state in the Konkan division. It is located 110 km from Mumbai city and hosts Reliance energy's largest thermal power station and Tarapur atomic power station. It is the site of the currently stalled Wadhawan new port project at Rewas.
Trimbakeshwar
Trimbakeshwar or Tryambakeshwar is an ancient Hindu temple in the town of Trimbak, in the Trimbakeshwar tehsil in the Nashik District of Maharashtra, India, 28 km from the city of Nashik and 40 km from Nashik road.
Shriwardhan
Shrivardhan or Shriwardhan has developed into a seaside resort, along with the nearby town of Harihareshwar, which also has a Shiva temple. Located on a peninsula, the town itself boasts many beaches, in addition to proximity to numerous other beach destinations such as Diveagar Beach and Kondivali Beach. People from across Maharashtra come to Shrivardhan and the nearby beaches all year round. The taluka of Shriwardhan is an ancient place of historical importance and is mentioned as being visited by Arjuna Pandav in his pilgrimage. It was an important port in the past, well known to traders of Ahmednagar and Bijapur in the 16th and 17th centuries. It appears in the accounts of leading European travelers, for example, Ziffardan. In 1538, Dom Joao de Castro described it as having little water under the pier at low tide, but that the interior of the city was large and roomy. It is notable as the birthplace of Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa who was the Deshmukh of the town, where there is now a monument to him.
Panhala
Panhala is a city and a Hill station Municipal Council 18 km northwest of Kolhapur, in Kolhapur district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Panhala is the smallest city in Maharashtra and is a Municipal Council the city is developing rapidly. The city sprawls in the Panhala fort commands a panoramic view of the valley below. The main historical attraction here is the Panhala fort. There are many places of interest, each with its share of haunting anecdotes.
Jalgaon
Jalgaon is a major city in western India, located in the north of Maharashtra state within the region of Khandesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Jalgaon district.
