About Alibag
Alibag, also known as Alibaug, is a coastal town, just south of Mumbai, in western India. It is known for its beaches like Alibag Beach and Varsoli Beach. Just offshore, 17th-century Kolaba Fort has carvings of tigers and elephants, and temples dedicated to Hindu gods. To the south, Portuguese-built Korlai Fort dates from 1521 and includes a lighthouse. The island fort of Janjira has high walls, turrets, and cannons.
Alibaug Beach
Alibaug Beach is the main beach with a very flat stretch that makes for a long walk. It is reasonably clean and has thin crowds during the week. The sand has a hard texture and is a shade of black. It is not easy to create sandcastles. The tide rolls in from all sides as you may have to wade through water on the way back.
Kolaba Fort
Kolaba Fort is an old military fortification in India. It is situated in the sea at a distance of 1–2 km from the shores of Alibag, 35 km south of Mumbai, in the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
Nagaon Beach
Nagaon Beach is a beautiful beach with crystal clear water and lined with ‘suru’ or casurina plants. This black-sand beach is about 10 km from Alibag and is famous for coconuts and betel nuts.
Vrindavan Farm
Vrindavan Farm finds all varieties of alien and everyday plants can be seen on this farm. 70,000 and more plants can be found to be on sale on the farm. The various kinds of plants are crotons, cacti, and many kinds of mango trees. Guava, custard apple, chikoo can also be found on this farm. The Vrindavan Farm is spread over a tremendous area of 28 acres.
Kanakeshwar Temple
Shree Kshetra Kanakeshwar, on the Konkan coast near Alibag, is a popular place, famous for its cool climate and the old temple of Lord Shiva. The temple is situated on a small hill near the village of Mapgaon which is almost 12 km from Alibag.
Murud-Janjira Fort
Murud-Janjira is the local name for a fort situated on an island just off the coastal village of Murud, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
Kihim Beach
The major attraction of Kihim is its sandy beach. Though Kihim was once known as a "Bird Watchers' Paradise", very few exotic species can be still found in the areas having dense cover of trees. Variety of butterflies are also found here.
Brahma Kund
Brahma Kund, Alibag is a place of attraction for tourists. There are two popular kunds at this place, the Shiva pool, and the Brahma pond.
Varsoli Beach
Varsoli is one of the beaches nearest to Alibaug town. Located approximately 3kms from Alibaug bus depot is a popular beach in Alibaug.
Best Time To Visit Alibaug
November to July is the best time to visit Alibaug to enjoy the beaches. Between August to October, you can enjoy clear rainy days exposing the lush green beauty of Alibaug.
Summers in Alibag is warm but enjoyable. The maximum temperature recorded in the region is 36°C. It is a good time for sightseeing. Alibag experiences heavy rainfall and the natural beauty of the region is enhanced more during this season. This is the best time to visit Alibag. Alibag is very cold during the winter season and the minimum temperature reaches up to 14°C.
