About Sangli

Sangli is a City and the district headquarters of Sangli District in the state of Maharashtra, in western India. It is known as the Turmeric City of Maharashtra due to its production and trade of spice. Sangli is situated on the banks of the river Krishna and houses many sugar factories. The Ganesha Temple of Sangli is a historical landmark of the city and is visited by thousands of pilgrims.
Sangli Fort

Sangli Fort is situated in the center of Sangli City. Inside the fort is the Collector's office, Revenue Office, a Marathi school, and a museum. Rajwada, the palace is also located inside the fort, and the museum is located on the backside of the Rajwada.
Ganapati Temple

Ganapati temple situated on the banks of river Krishna at Sangli is the most beautiful temple in south Maharashtra. A good momentum of Sangli is the Ganapati Mandir. This temple is very famous for its artistic construction. It is built out of black stone made available from the hills of Jyotiba.
Datta Mandir

Audumbar is known for the shrine of Dattatraya held in high reverence. It is said to have been built in honor of Nar-sirhha Sarasvati who was a great saint and who is supposed to be the incarnation of Dattatraya.
Mahadev Temple

Mahadev temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Dandoba Hill Forest Preserve

The place is dotted with several ancient temples and historical memorabilia. The Forest Preserve is abundant with rich flora and fauna.
Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is at trifurcation of three tehsils namely m Khanapur, Walva, and Palus Tehsils of Sangli district covering an area of 10.87-sq-km in Western Maharashtra. The significance of this sanctuary is that it is a man-made sanctuary.
Open Jail of Swatantrapur

Open Jail of Swatantrapur Sangli is one of the prominent attractions of Sangli. In ancient times the people who behaved well during their punishment in other jails were sent to this jail as a reward. In this jail, such people were allowed to meet their families and were also given personal land for farming.
Irwin Bridge

Irwin Bridge is one of the oldest, historic, and largest bridges built on the river Krishna during British rule. This Bridge is built of Red-colored stone and has two passages to climb down in the middle of the bridge and view the river water.
Best Time To Visit Sangli

The best time to visit Sangli is from September to March. Sangli experiences a very hot and arid climate for the most part of the year. During the summer season, the temperature can soar to a menacing 40°C during the daytime, and hence traveling during this time of the year is generally avoided. The monsoons are more than welcomed post the intolerable heat as the region is blessed with some bountiful rainfall. The winter season is the best time to explore the city as the surroundings are cool and pleasant.
