Solapur is a city located in the south-western region of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Solapur is located on major road and rail routes between Mumbai and Hyderabad, with a branch line to the cities of Bijapur and Gadag in the neighbouring state of Karnataka. Solapur district has the highest number of sugar factories in Maharashtra state as well as in India. Solapur leads Maharashtra in the production of Indian cigarettes or beedi. Solapuri Chadars and towels are famous in India and also at a global level, however, there has been a significant decline in their exports due to quality reasons. "Solapuri chadars" are the famous and first product in Maharashtra to get a Geographical Indication tag and has been a leading centre for cotton mills and power looms in Maharashtra. Solapur had the world's second-largest and Asia's largest spinning mill. The National Research Centre on Pomegranate of India is located in Solapur and pomegranate farming is done on a large scale in Solapur District.

Best Time To Visit Solapur

The best time to visit Solapur is from October to March. Summer in Solapur is supposed to be very humid and the temperature is generally very hot. Thus unless it is a necessity, it is best to avoid visiting Solapur during the summer season. Summer begins in the month of March and continues till May. Temperature can even rise up to 45°C during the summer time. Summer is followed by heavy rainfall and signifies the beginning of the monsoon. June to September are the monsoon months. The Winter season brings pleasant weather conditions to Solapur. The weather condition from the month of October to March, which signifies the beginning and end of winter, is very comfortable and this is the best time to explore the city. The temperature remains comfortable ranging from 18°C to 30°C.
