About Jowai
Jowai is the headquarters of West Jaintia Hills district of the state of Meghalaya, India and is home to the Pnar tribe. It is a scenic place located on a plateau surrounded on three sides by the Myntdu river bordering Bangladesh to the south.
Nartiang Monoliths
Nartiang Monoliths exist throughout the length and breadth of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills. However, the biggest collection of monoliths or Megalithic stones in one single area is to be found north of the Nartiang market.
Tryshi Falls
Tryshi fall is located about 5 km from Jowai. A pretty arch bridge connects across an expanse of green paddy fields, which opens up to the gushing Tyrshi falls thundering down to the Pynthor below.
Krang Suri Falls
Krang Suri is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the District. To transform the place into a tourists destination the District Administration has initiated steps to construct Chisseled and graveled footpaths and view points to enable visitors to better appreciate the beauty of the waterfall and its surroundings.
Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake
Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake is located at Jarain, in Amlarem subdivision of War-Jaintia region amid the natural habitat of the carnivorous pitcher plant.
Umlawan Cave
The entrance of Krem Kotsati is located in the center of Lumshnong village itself. It is used as a washing place by the villagers. One needs to swim to enter the cave.
Syntu Ksair
Syntu Ksiar meaning Flower of Gold is a vast stretch of the riverbank of Myntdu river where people usually go for picnics and angling, in the vicinity of Jowai which encircles two-third of the Jowai Township.
Stone Bridge
This stone bridge built by U Mar Phalyngki and U Luh Lamare under the orders of the Jaintia King. Because of the rise of the Muwistream during the monsoon a bridge was required to be built for the King's journey from Jaintiapur to Nartiang.
Thadlaskein Lake
Thadlaskein Lake is a popular picnic spot for locals and tourists.
Jaintia Hills
A land of undulating hills rich in mineral deposits. The natural vegetation changes according to the topography of the land kingdom of Jaintiapur now in present-day Bangladesh.
Lalong Park
The Park is located about 8 km from Jowai. It is known for its sacred grove and for its setting which overlooks the beautiful Pynthorwah Valley.
Best Time To Visit Jowai
The best time to visit Jowai is from December to April. Pleasant weather is what you can expect at all times whenever you are visiting Jowai. This helps tourists explore most of the places to visit near Jowai and around in the least possible time. There is no such best time to visit Jowai but it’s advisable to travel when the weather conditions are good and cozy.
