About Konark

Konark is a medium town in the Puri district in the state of Odisha, India. It lies on the coast by the Bay of Bengal, 65 kilometers from the capital of the state, Bhubaneswar. It is the site of the 13th-century Sun Temple, also known as the Black Pagoda, built in black granite during the reign of Narasimhadeva-I. The temple is a World Heritage Site. The temple is now mostly in ruins, and a collection of its sculptures is housed in the Sun Temple Museum, which is run by the Archaeological Survey of India. Konark is also home to an annual dance festival called Konark Dance Festival, held every December, devoted to classical Indian dance forms, including the traditional classical dance of Odisha, Odissi.
Sun Temple

Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century CE sun temple at Konark about 35 kilometers northeast from Puri on the coastline of Odisha, India. The temple is attributed to king Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty about 1250 CE.
Konark Beach

Konark Beach is situated in Odisha on the eastern coast of India and is considered to be India's finest beach. The Ramchandi Temple is situated about 10 km along the beach. The sun temple also stands on this beach.
Konark Museum

Konark museum started in the year 1968 and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. The museum has four galleries that showcase 260 different fallen architectural pieces and sculptures that were found during the clearance work of the Konark temple complex.
Ramachandi Temple

The temple of Ramachandi is one of the important Sakta shrines of Orissa. In the 16th century A.D the Maa Ramachandi was placed in a small place in the Sun Temple of Konark.
Balukhand-Konark Wildlife Sanctuary

Balukhand-Konark Wildlife Sanctuary falls under the ecologically sensitive zone, where there is a wildlife sanctuary, called Balukhand Konark Sanctuary. Balukhand-Konark Sanctuary was established on the sandy tract covered by plantation of casuarina and cashew trees, along the coast between Puri and Konark.

Best Time To Visit Konark

Konark experiences a typical tropical climate, and the best climate of the town is during the months of September to March. Konark experiences hot summer with high humidity however, as compared to other places in Odhisha the heat is milder. It is suggested that you avoid making a plan to visit Konark around this time. Monsoons are accompanied by medium showers along with cyclones at times. The maximum amount of rainfall is received in the month of August. Monsoon opens up the place and makes it look fresh. Konark remains pleasant during the winter season, with the temperature falling to 15°C. It is the best time to visit Konark and enjoy the trip to the fullest. An ideal time for sightseeing and explore the city and the coastline.
