About Puri
Puri is a city and a municipality in the state of Odisha in eastern India. It is the district headquarters of Puri district and is situated on the Bay of Bengal, 60 kilometers south of the state capital of Bhubaneswar. It is also known as Sri Jagannath Dham after the 12th-century Jagannath Temple located in the city. It is one of the original Char Dham pilgrimage sites for Hindus. Puri is known by several names since ancient times, and was locally known as "Shrikhetra" and Lord Jagannath temple is known as "Badadeula". Puri and the Jagannath Temple were invaded 18 times by Hindu and Muslim rulers, from the 4th century AD till the early 19th century with the objective of looting the treasures of the temple. Odisha, including Puri and its temple, were under the British Raj from 1803 till India attained independence in August 1947. Even though princely states do not exist in India today the heirs of the Gajapati Dynasty of Khurda still perform the ritual duties of the temple. The temple town has many Hindu religious maths or monasteries.

Konark Beach is situated in Odisha on the eastern coast of India and is considered to be India's finest beach. The Ramchandi Temple is situated about 10 km along the beach. The sun temple also stands on this beach. This is a place of religious importance to Hindus.
Best Time To Visit Puri
The weather in Puri is highly influenced by the sea as it lies on the banks of the Bay of Bengal. Summer in Puri is marked by extreme heat and humidity; it is not an ideal period for sightseeing and other outdoor activities. However, there is a huge inflow of visitors into this pilgrimage destination. It can be hard for some who are not accustomed to high temperature, carry light cotton wears, and sun blockers around this time. Monsoon is accompanied by heavy downpours and thunderstorms. The daytime is cool while the nights can turn chilly. It is not a very tourist-friendly season even the locals do not come out of the house. In this season, the city celebrates, what is known as the Rath Yatra. Thousands of people gather and take part in the vibrant procession.
The winter season is an ideal time to visit Puri, as the weather remains cool and pleasant. Sightseeing and other outdoor activities are favorable around this time. The days are usually warm and the night turns a bit chilly. The famous Beach Festival is one of the highlights of Puri which takes place in November. Carry some light warm wears while traveling at this time.
