About Lachung

Lachung is a mountain village close to the Tibetan border, in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery, surrounded by apple orchards. Nearby, the Yumthang Valley's Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary protects many species of rhododendron. The valley is also known for its waterfalls, pine forests, and hot springs.

Yume Samdong is also known as Zero Point and is nearly 26 kilometers from Lachung.

Lachung Chu

Best Time To Visit Lachung

Lachung can be visited almost throughout the year. The best time to visit this place is between the months of October and June as, during this time, the weather is a lot pleasing at Lachung. The summer season in Lachung is quite pleasing and cool as this season features moderate temperatures ranging between 10°C and 28°C. The month of March marks the beginning of summers that lasts till the month of May. Summers are not so hot here, and thus make it easy for the visitors to explore Lachung’s charming locales. This season is the perfect season to witness the splendor of nature as rhododendrons cover this place, making it look even more fascinating. Monsoon season starts in the month of July and ends in September. This season brings in heavy rainfall that is witnessed by the entire city. Despite the heavy rains, tourists still make a visit to Lachung. If you have sightseeing plans, then the monsoon season is not an apt time to visit Lachung as heavy rains disrupt outdoor activities, especially sightseeing. Winters in Lachung are real cold and chilly, with temperatures hovering between 10°C and -5°C. This season sets in October and lasts till the month of February. Winters here, feature-heavy snowfall accompanied by continuous fog, still this season is idyllic to witness some of the most spell-binding views of the snow-clad mountains. One can enjoy the best of outdoor activities during this time without getting dehydrated or tanned by the sun.
