About Yelagiri Hills

Yelagiri is a hill station in the southeast Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Built-in 1964, the hilltop Velavan Temple is a colorful Murugan temple with views of the valley below. The Jalagamparai Waterfalls crash into a swimming hole surrounded by trails and picnic spots. Nearby is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Close to artificial Punganur Lake, the Nature Park has a garden and an aquarium, with fish and tortoises.
Yelagiri Nature Park

Yelagiri Nature Park is located adjacent to Punganoor Lake, spread over an area of 12 acres. Several species of plants suited to the rocky terrain of the region have been planted in the park. The park also has an artificial waterfall.
Punganur Lake

Punganoor Lake is an artificial Lake located in the center of the Yelagiri Hills. There is also a fountain in the middle and boating facilities are available. The Nature Park surrounds the lake.
Swami Malai Hills

Swami Malai hills are hills in the shape of a cake with a strong base at the bottom and a high peak. Trekking is an attraction at Swami Malai hills. This trek leads one to a small peak from where the entire valley is visible.
Velavan Temple

Velavan Temple is one of the famous religious places in Yelagiri. It was built in remembrance of Lord Murugan.
Nilavoor Lake

Nilavoor Lake is an artificial lake located in Nilavoor village. It is a small lake more like a pond, with a garden on its banks.
Gadodhgajan

Giant statue of Gadothgajan the son of Bheeman and Idumbi placed in front of the Velavan temple.
Government Herbal Farm

Government Herbal Farm is an herbal fruit farm located in the vicinity of the Punganoor Lake and is maintained by the Forest Department. The farm houses several rare plant and herb species used in Sidda and Ayurvedic medicines.
Vainu Bappu Observatory

Vainu Bappu Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. It is located at Kavalur in the Javadi Hills, near Vaniyambadi in Vellore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Best Time To Visit Yelagiri Hills

Yelagiri has a moderate climate therefore travelers love to visit the city all through the year. But still, the best season to visit Yelagiri is the months from November to February. During this period, tourists can enjoy the real beauty of this place. The whole place looks fabulous and one can even enjoy the adventure activities such as trekking, paragliding, and rock climbing. This is also the time when two major festivals are celebrated. Diwali is celebrated in October and Pongal is celebrated in January.
