Hallstatt is a village on Lake Hallstatt's western shore in Austria's mountainous Salzkammergut region. Its 16th-century Alpine houses and alleyways are home to cafes and shops. A funicular railway connects to Salzwelten, an ancient salt mine with a subterranean salt lake, and to Skywalk Hallstatt viewing platform. A trail leads to the Echern Valley glacier garden with glacial potholes and Waldbachstrub Waterfall.
Salzkammergut

Hoher Dachstein
Hoher Dachstein is a strongly karstic Austrian mountain and the second-highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps. and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At 2,700 meters the highest mountain of Styria presents itself with legendary natural scenery and a panoramic view over the mountain peaks of Austria far to the Czech Republic and Slovenia. Dachstein has a rich cave system and is famous for its fossils, including megalodonts.
Hallstätter See
Hallstätter See or Lake Hallstatt is a lake in the Salzkammergut. It is named after Hallstatt, a small market town famous for its salt mining since prehistoric times and for being the starting point of the world's oldest still-working industrial pipeline. Hallstatt is spectacularly picturesque, due to its location on a narrow rocky west bank of the Hallstättersee with the sheer rising mountains behind it. Considered by some to be one of the most beautiful places on earth, Hallstatt is sometimes called "the pearl of Austria".
Treppe ins Nichts
Treppe ins Nichts or Dachstein Skywalk is a viewing platform on the south side of the mountain station of the Dachstein-Südwandbahn on the Hunerkogel in the Upper Austrian Dachstein Glacier ski area. Remarkable views downwards and across the mountains are guaranteed. On a clear day, you can see the whole Tauern with the Großglockner and Großvenediger and south to Triglav in Slovenia and north over the granite and gneiss highlands to the Czech Republic from the Skywalk.
Hallstatt Museum
Hallstatt Museum is a museum in Hallstatt, Upper Austria, that has an unrivaled collection of discoveries from the local salt mines and from the cemeteries of Iron Age date near to the mines, which have made Hallstatt the type site for the important Hallstatt culture. The museum, the salt mines, and the Dachstein Ice Cave are designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hallstätter Glacier
Hallstätter Glacier is the largest glacier in the Dachstein Mountains. It lies immediately beneath the northern foot of the Dachstein itself and runs down to the Eissee lake below the Simony Hut at a height of 2,205 meters. To the east, the Hallstätter Glacier is bounded by the High Gjaidstein. This incredible natural wonder is not just a relic from the last ice age, but also a fantastic excursion tip for the whole family.
Hoher Gjaidstein
Hoher Gjaidstein is a 2,794 m high mountain peak in the Dachstein Mountains in Upper Austria east and above the Hallstätter Glacier. It may be reached from the summit station of the Dachstein South Face Cable Car or from the Simony Hut each of which is an easy grade I climb. The mountain was climbed as early as 1823 by de Halley from the north of the Gjaid cirque.
Eissee
The Upper and Lower Eissee are two lakes in the Dachstein Mountains in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. They lie north of a 2,794 m high mountain, the Gjaidstein, at an elevation of around 2,000 meters. The Lower Eissee lies at 1,909 m in a shallow cirque, the Taubenkar. The Upper Eissee lies about 700 meters west of the Lower Eissee at a height of some 2,100 m below the Simony Hut and the Dachstein Chapel.

The best time to visit Hallstatt is from March to May and October to November.
