About The Hague

The Hague is a city on the North Sea coast of the western Netherlands. Its Gothic-style Binnenhof or Inner Court complex is the seat of the Dutch parliament, and 16th-century Noordeinde Palace is the king’s workplace. The city is also home to the U.N.’s International Court of Justice, headquartered in the Peace Palace, and the International Criminal Court. The Mauritshuis museum, in a 17th-century mansion, displays Golden Age art masterpieces including Vermeer’s “Girl With a Pearl Earring.” Gemeentemuseum Den Haag houses Delftware ceramics and works by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. There’s a museum of graphic artist M. C. Escher’s work in the 18th-century Lange Voorhout Palace. The 19th-century Panorama Mesdag is a 360° painting of Scheveningen beach resort, set in its own museum. Wood-lined ‘brown’ cafes line the cobbled streets and canals around Denneweg, and the Hofkwartier has upscale shops and restaurants. Madurodam park contains miniature models of famous Dutch buildings.
Madurodam

Madurodam is a miniature park and tourist attraction in the Scheveningen district of The Hague. It is home to a range of 1:25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch landmarks, historical cities, and large developments. Visitors are treated to a trip through the history of the country and its famous buildings.
Mauritshuis

Mauritshuis is an art museum in The Hague. The museum houses the Royal Cabinet of Paintings which consists of 854 objects, mostly Dutch Golden Age paintings. The collections contain works by Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jan Steen, Paulus Potter, Frans Hals, Jacob van Ruisdael, Hans Holbein the Younger, and others.
Binnenhof

Binnenhof is a complex of buildings in the city centre of The Hague. It houses the meeting place of both houses of the States-General of the Netherlands, as well as the Ministry of General Affairs and the office of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. The Binnenhof is among the oldest Parliament buildings in the world still in use.
Escher Museum

Escher in Het Paleis is a museum in The Hague featuring the works of the Dutch graphical artist M. C. Escher. The museum features a permanent display of a large number of woodcuts and lithographs by M.C. Escher, among them the world-famous prints, Air and Water, Belvedere, Waterfall, Drawing. The museum is dedicated to the Optical Illusion, besides the famous Escher Room in which grownups seem to be smaller than their children, one's eyes will be tricked by multiple interactive displays.
Panorama Mesdag

Panorama Mesdag is a panorama by Hendrik Willem Mesdag. The panorama is a cylindrical painting more than 14 metres high and about 40 metres in diameter. From an observation gallery in the centre of the room, the cylindrical perspective creates the illusion that the viewer is on a high sand dune overlooking the sea, beaches and village of Scheveningen in the late 19th century.
Sea Life Scheveningen

Sea Life Scheveningen gives you a unique glimpse into the amazing underwater life in our oceans. Visitors can stand eye to eye with sharks and rays, learn more about turtles and dangerous piranhas and meet the friendly otters and penguins in their lovely habitat.
Kunstmuseum Den Haag

The Kunstmuseum Den Haag is an art museum in The Hague. It is renowned for its large Mondrian collection, the largest in the world. His last work, Victory Boogie-Woogie, is on display here. The museum's collection of modern art includes works by international artists and Dutch artists. The museum has a collection of 19th and 20th-century prints, posters, and drawings, containing around 50,000 items.
Louwman Museum

Louwman Museum is a museum for historic cars, coaches, and motorcycles in The Hague. It showcases over 200 cars that have been assembled since 1934 by two generations of the Louwman family. The museum has the largest collection of cars in the world from 1910 or older. The museum displays a large collection of the current remaining 15 classic cars of the Dutch brand Spyker and the only remaining Eysink.
Gevangenpoort

Gevangenpoort is a former gate and medieval prison on the Buitenhof in The Hague. Its most famous prisoner was Cornelis de Witt, who was held on the charge of plotting the murder of the stadtholder. Visitors can view the restored art gallery and the collection which hangs here is a modern reconstruction of the original 1774 art cabinet that was situated upstairs above the fencing school.
Prince William V Gallery

Prince William V Gallery is an art gallery on the Buitenhof in The Hague that currently shares an entrance with the Gevangenpoort museum once founded there by William V, Prince of Orange in 1774. The displayed paintings are part of the collection of the Mauritshuis. Amongst the paintings on display are works by Peter Paul Rubens, Jan Steen, Paulus Potter, and Gerard van Honthorst.

The best time to visit The Hague is from May to October when the weather is pleasant.
