About Wellington
Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, sits near the North Island’s southernmost point on the Cook Strait. A compact city, it encompasses a waterfront promenade, sandy beaches, a working harbour and colourful timber houses on surrounding hills. From Lambton Quay, the iconic red Wellington Cable Car heads to the Wellington Botanic Gardens. Strong winds through the Cook Strait give it the nickname " Windy Wellington." On the waterfront, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa commonly shortened to Te Papa is the national centre focusing on the country’s natural history, cultures and art. From the city centre, a promenade lined with restaurants, parkland and heritage buildings leads to Oriental Bay. The Mt. Victoria Lookout has panoramic views of the city and harbour. Also reached by the Wellington Cable Car is the Carter Observatory, which houses the Space Place planetarium.
Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa
Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa also known as Te Papa or Our Place is New Zealand's national museum, located in Wellington. The History Collection includes many dresses and textiles, the oldest of which date back to the sixteenth century. There are significant collections of fossils and archaeozoology; a herbarium of about 250,000 dried specimens a collection of about 70,000 specimens of New Zealand birds; significant amphibians, reptiles, and mammals.
Zealandia
Zealandia is also known as Te Riu-a-Māui or Tasmantis is a world-class conservation ecosanctuary and is almost entirely submerged mass of continental crust that subsided after breaking away from Gondwanaland 83–79 million years ago. Zealandia supports substantial inshore fisheries and contains gas fields, of which the largest known is New Zealand's Maui gas field, near Taranaki. You can see rare birds like hihi, kākāriki and takahē. Spot prehistoric reptiles like the tuatara bathing in the sun.

Beehive
Beehive is the common name for the Executive Wing of the New Zealand Parliament Building and is so-called because its shape is reminiscent of that of a traditional woven form of beehive known as a "skep". The building is ten storeys high and has four floors below ground. The entrance foyer's core is decorated with marble floors, stainless steel mesh wall panels, and a translucent glass ceiling. The New Zealand Parliament's Visitor Centre, open most days from 9 am to 5 pm, is located on the ground floor of the Beehive.
Wellington Cable Car
Wellington Cable Car is a funicular railway in Wellington between Lambton Quay, the main shopping street, and Kelburn. The Wellington Cable Car is widely recognized as a symbol of Wellington. Enjoy great views from the lookout and easy access to the Botanic Garden, Cable Car Museum, Space Place, and Zealandia Ecosanctuary.
Mount Victoria Lookout
Mount Victoria provides stunning 360° views of Wellington City, the harbour and the ocean to the south. Car and bus access is via Alexandra Road while walking tracks lead from Oriental Parade and Majoribanks Street. It is a great place for walking, jogging and mountain biking. At the end of the summit road, near the viewing platform, is a striking memorial to Richard Byrd, the American aviator.
Bucket Fountain
Bucket Fountain is an iconic kinetic sculpture in Wellington and is located in Cuba Mall. It consists of a series of buckets that fill with water until they tip, spilling their load into the buckets and pool below. Much of the water does not reach the buckets below but instead splashes onto pedestrians and onlookers.
Percy Scenic Reserve
Percy Scenic Reserve is a beautifully unique park just on the edge of Lower Hutt. With a mix of garden area, easy trails, a small cave, and a waterfall it’s a perfect spot for youngsters to have their first forest or trail experience amongst some rare native plants. The reserve gardens contain a nursery raising native species to support the natural regeneration in the valley as well as being an important collection of rare and endangered plants from the Wellington region and from other threatened ecosystems across New Zealand such as Mt Burnett, the Chatham Islands, and other offshore islands.
Adrenalin Forest
Adrenalin Forest is a great confidence builder and wicked adrenalin rush adventure park in a beautiful forest setting. The parks feature an aerial obstacle course and flying foxes with different pathways of progressive difficulty. There are different pathways on-site, with increasing levels of challenge and height.
Mount Kaukau
Mount Kaukau is the highest viewable point over Wellington City. The city, harbor, and the Remutaka and Tararua Ranges can be seen from the summit. On a clear day, Mt. Tapuae-o-Uenuku and the Kaikoura Ranges in the South Island may be seen, whilst northwest is the Porirua Basin and the Tasman Sea. Native birds such as the kereru, tui, and fantail are common sights when walking through the native forest.
